He was born on July 28, 1986, in Geumsan County, South Chungcheong Province, South Korea. He went to the renowned school of the country, Geumsan High School. Lim is dropped out of Chungbuk University, South Korea. But, he completed his graduation at Hanyang University by majoring in Theatres and films. Then, he entered the film industry and made his debut with the short film “Lemon Time” in 2012. Though he was not much recognized after this, he didn’t lose hope and released another film, “The World of If” in 2014. It got immense attention from the fans and even received an excellence Award at the Seoul Independent Film Festival. It gave quite a popularity to Lim as a director.

One of his best achievements consists of his sophomore work, the movie ‘Moonlit Winter’(2019), which was shot majorly in Hokkaido, Japan, and earned him vast recognition by scoring more than 120,000 admissions upon its release, an impressive feat for an indie film revolving around a romantic relationship between two middle-aged women. Lim was also honored by the awards for Best Screenplay and Best Director from the Korean Association of Film Critics. This film provided him with a great level of fame around the country.
