Kim Yoo-jin is a film director from South Korea. He started his career in filmmaking to speak up about his social opinions. His first film was ‘Only Because You Are a Woman’ – a story of a raped housewife who faces doubt and victim-blaming from her family, neighbors, and inside the courtroom. Kim’s ‘A Promise’ was admired for its actors and became the top-grossing Korean film of 1998. His period action blockbuster ‘The Divine Weapon’ took nearly six years to produce and had a 10 billion won budget.

He also directed films like ‘Hero’s Love Song’ (1986), ‘The Isle of Shiro’ (1988), ‘Love is Oh Yeah!’ (1993), ‘My Dear Keumhong’ (1995), ‘Seven Reasons Why Beer Is Better Than a Lover’ (1996), and ‘Wild Card’ (2003). He received the ‘Best Director’ for ‘Love is Oh Yeah!’ at the 14th Blue Dragon Film Awards in 1993, ‘Special Jury Prize’ for ‘Wild Card’ at the 11th Chunsa Film Art Awards in 2003, and ‘Best Technical and Artistic Achievement’ for ‘The Divine Weapon’ at the Fajr International Film festival in 2009.
