Kim Soo-yong is a film director from the South Korean entertainment industry. ‘A Henpecked Husband’ in 1958 was Kim’s debut film. He then directed more than 100 movies through 1999. He also made many popular commercial films like ‘Sad Story of Self Supporting Child’ and around 50 movies based on Korean novels like ‘The Sea Village’ (1965) and ‘Mist’ (1967).

He also acted in films like ‘Sorrow in the Heavens’ (1984) and ‘Loving Children’ (1984) and produced ‘Chimhyang’ (2000).

He received awards like ‘Best Director’ for many films like ‘Sad Story of Self Supporting Child,’ ‘The Sea Village,’ ‘Mist,’ ‘Children in the Firing Range,’ and ‘The Land’ at various award functions. He was felicitated by Chunsa Daesang (Grand Prize) at the 16th Chunsa Film Art Awards in 2008 and for his contribution to cinema at the 29th Korean Association of Film Critics’ Awards in 2009.
