Drama Digest

Deep Brians (脑海深处) is a Chinese medical drama that aired on the original network of iQiyi from the 26th of April, 2021, to the 13th of May, 2021. Each segment lasts for about thirty minutes, being spread over twelve episodes. The television series depicts the fierce competition between two surgeons at the National Natural Science Foundation.

The Feel-Good Part

One of the first things that draw you in is the visuals of the actors portraying the doctor as a job. Another highlight point of the drama is the insight into a hectic such as a hospital. This drama can be a source of inspiration for those pursuing or who plan to pursue a career in medicine.

The Disappointing Factor

Although the drama series received much love from overseas and the general public, the drama falls short in its graphic imagery. A content warning must be issued for the viewers, who are sensitive to viewing scenes that involve extreme blood and lengthy operations. Moreover, the medical jargon used in the drama is a little complicated for a layman to comprehend.

In-Depth Analysis

The director set the drama series in an esteemed hospital. Being a hospital, it is a place that faces new, disastrous cases every day. Two competent surgeons challenge each other to solve operations in their best possible methods. Fan Xun, who goes by the nickname of “Lone Ranger” or Gu Xiong Fan Xun, is quite efficient with knives. However, he promotes against the use of surgery and looks for the safest alternative possible. On the other hand, Dan Yi Shan, or “Surgery Mad”/ Doctor Shan, strongly believes in technology in surgery to improve the longevity chances of a patient’s life. He considers the technology to take over the ineffectiveness of laborers and increase survival.

Star Power

The line-up involves Tim Tian as Fan Xun, Wang Kuang as Dai Yi Shan, Jackie Tan as Chen Dudu, Bai Yi Hong as Guo Ye, Liu Qian Wen as O Joey, Fang Qing Zhou as Zhao Li Xuan, Qi Yun Peng as He Da Wei, Cheng Ye as Du Yao Fei, Dou Ruo Xi as Han Bei Yi, and Li Zheng.

Overall Opinion

We recommend watching this intense drama series set in a hospital over a long weekend. It deals with the inner working, proving its relevance in the current times. Moreover, we get to know the acts that go into saving one’s precious life.
