Drama digest

This is an old-style Chinese period drama also called ‘Wuxia’ drama. The protagonist of the story is a justice-loving person who’s on a quest of finding out the truth behind his father’s death and some other consequences that have affected his life.

The Feel-good part

Everything physical about the drama is aesthetic – the cinematography, the costumes, the actors, the music, etc. One impressive point was the selection of real-life locations used for shooting. The most pleasing point of the show was its tone. It has an ancient Wuxia (old traditional Chinese) tone to it, which is extremely pleasing.

The disappointing factor

The show tries to portray the lives of too many characters and fails at delivering. A lot of characters lack proper backstories which can confuse some viewers. Even after having forty episodes, the series feels rushed towards the end.

In-depth analysis

The story is based on a kingdom presided over by a certain king. In his realm, almost all men and some women are martial art experts, professional fighters, etc. the protagonist of the story is a young man named Hu Fei. Hu Fei is a skilled martial artist who’s charming and brave. He carries with him a motive that nobody has any knowledge about. This motive is finding out the truth behind his father’s unexpected demise. Fei’s mother had passed away when he was a child, but sometime later, his father passed away unexpectedly too. It came as a shock to Hu Fei, which ignited a sense of revenge in him. To this day, he has a habit of training every day. One day he comes across a warlord who is cruel by nature. Fei finds out that this warlord is somehow related to his father’s death. Hence, this leads Fei to follow this warlord wherever he goes so that he can seek his revenge. But problems arise when he meets the daughter of the warlord, Yuan Zi Yi. Zi Yi herself, is a martial artist and has a fantastic personality. Hu Fei starts falling for Zi Yi, which makes things complicated. But with Ziyi by his side, he starts changing for the good. He becomes more mature, kind, and forgiving. Just like this, a mature Fei then starts helping his sworn uncle to gain his vision back by searching for medicine. During this quest, he meets another woman named Cheng Ling Su. This woman is a princess and ends up falling for Fei. This complicates things further as Hu Fei’s love life becomes a love triangle. Hu Fei continues to move forward in the direction his fate was leading him to and meets many other martial artists as well. Every happening and meeting makes Fei a different and more mature person than he already was. Going on like this, Hu Fei discovers a shocking thing about his own life. He finds out that his father’s death was not what he has believed all along but is something else. This is his quest to discover the ultimate truth while balancing the relationships in his life.

Star power

Though the male lead was appealing, the most impressive were the second male and female leads. The second male lead, Miao Ren Feng, played by Li Yu Shen, has a sad story which gives him an emotional edge. The second female lead, Cheng Ling Su, played by Xing Fei, is a savage and royal queen.

Overall opinion

The ancient Wuxia tone of the drama makes it even more watchable.
