Pumpuang Duangjan was the musical sensation of Thailand. She was born on 4th August 1961 in Hankha, Chainat in Thailand. Her birth name was Ramphueng Chit- Han, and she was commonly referred to as Pueng. Duangjan was born in a poor farmer family and attended school for very little time. She had to work as a sugar cane cutter to support her family. During this, she used to memorize lyrics and participate in singing competitions held at the local level. When Pumpuang was 15 years old, she attracted the attention of a musical band by popular Luk Thung singer Waiphot Phetsuphan. This marked the beginning of Pueng’s career as a musician. She became known as the Queen of Thai Luk Thung Music. Her songs were mostly about Thailand’s poor population. Pumpuang was one of the most important people who introduced electronic Luk Thung in Thailand. Her two labels were Azona and Diamond Studio.
She was married to Kraisorn Leelamekhin. The couple had one child together. She released a lot of music. Her albums are Chua tee dee Jed hon in 1986, Harng Noy Thoy Nid in 1986, Kon dang Leum Lang Kway in 1985, and Jah hai Ror Hai Por Sor Nai in 1982. Her topline music includes Grasshopper tie a bow or Takkatan Pook Boh in 1986, Tee Ded Pumpuang or Pumpuang’s clever in 1986, Klom in 1987, Dangerous or Antarai in 1987, Pumpuang’31 in 1988, Pumpuang’31 part 2 in 1988, Pumpuang’32 in 1989, Pumpuang’32 part 2 in 1989, Good luck the money or Kho Hai Ruay in 1990, Num Phueang Duean ha in 1991, and Ruk Thae Phae Ruk Tiem in 1992. She also worked as an actress in Thai cinema. She had a huge fan following as a result of which she earned a large amount of money.
Unfortunately, her money was spent in vast amounts for a different reason, due to which she couldn’t afford treatment for a blood disorder from which she was suffering. Due to this, she died at the young age of 30 with her whole career ahead of her. In 2011, a movie was made on her life titled The Moon. Pumpuang also featured on Google Doodle in 2018.
