Savitree Suttichanond (Sawittri Sutthichanon; born June 8, 1985) is a Thai singer who rose to fame after appearing on the fifth season of True Visions’ Academy Fantasia. She’s finally wrapping up her time as a participant on the show, which included a nationwide concert tour in late August and early September 2008. Savitree Suttichanond, also known as Beau or Beau Savitree, was born in Thailand and has spent the last ten years in the United States.
Savitree was a part of the Delta Delta Delta sorority, a SPOP worker and an active member of the university’s Thai Club while attending the University of California, Irvine. Savitree was also involved in ITSA (Intercollegiate Thai Student Association), where she assisted in the organization of events hosted by Thai clubs from other universities, including the University of California, Riverside, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, the University of California, Los Angeles, the University of Southern California, California State University, Long Beach, and the University of California, San Diego.
Savitree competed in Academy Fantasia’s fifth season and was evicted during the show’s ninth week. From the clip (online) auditions, she made herself into the top 16, and she withstood the first eviction, finishing first in voting for the first week. For the last five weeks of her time in the competition, she was the only contestant left from the clip auditions.
The removal of Savitree stunned viewers around the world. Many people believe she was unfairly ousted since the ninth week’s voting contained a surprise vote in which a participant who had been voted off in the previous six weeks had a chance to return. This skewed the votes dramatically, resulting in the seven remaining contestants (including Savitree) having only 35% of the vote combined, and the votes of the seven contestants being within 0.42 per cent of each other.
