Biography: Lee Yong-ju

Lee Yong Ju is a well-known personality who has given a lot of remarkable works to the industry. He is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. His work is greatly appreciated by people around the world. Some of his notable works are, “Architecture 101” (2012), “Possessed” (2009), and “Seobok” (2021).

He was born on June 6, 1970, in Seoul, South Korea. He was raised in the former country. He finished his schooling at one of the nearby eminent schools. Later, he went to Yonsei University, South Korea, to pursue his further studies. He graduated from there in the field of architecture. Further, his interest was switched from architecture to editing and he decided to work in the Film Industry.
Then, he began his journey by working as an assistant director to Bong Joon-ho for “Memories of Murder” (2003).

Additionally, he got various opportunities to write a script for the long term. He made his directional debut with the film, which he also wrote, Possessed (2009). It attained a positive response from the audience and from critics due to its distinctive idea and well-conceived plot. It blew away the minds of viewers and was hugely acknowledged by people around the world. According to Lee, “screenplay is the most essential part of a film.” The film received enormous honor at the Udine Far East Film Festival, the Rotterdam International Film Festival, and the Tribeca International Film Festival in New York. Lee also earned an award at the Gérardmer Fantastic Film Festival and the Blue Dragon Awards. All these recognitions provided Lee colossal fame from the fans across the country.

He released his second feature film in 2012, which was “Architecture 101”. It was counted among lee’s masterpieces as it got viewer’s attention in one go only. It was undoubtedly one of his movies due to its restrained style and well-shown characters. This film received the award for Best Screenplay at the 2012 12th Buil Film Awards, which gave a lot of fame to Lee. He has produced numerous notable works, for instance, “A.F.R.I.K.A.” (2002), “Memories of Murder” (2003), “Spider Forest” (2004), “Feathers in the Wind” (2005), “Holy Daddy” (2006), “The Mafia”, “the Salesman” (2007), “The Silenced” (2015), “The Himalayas” (2015), “Seo Bok” (2020), and many others.
