He hails from South Korea and was born on October 25, 1962. He finished his schooling at one of the exalted schools of the country. After that, he went to Yonsei University, South Korea, and completed his graduation with a Psychology degree in 1991.

Following this, he landed in the film industry due to his keen interest in film-making. He took the first step towards his career and began his journey as an animator in 1995. Lee got the chance to direct numerous short films like “Soul”, “Lovers”, “Umbrella”, and “Ashes in the Thicket”. Furthermore, he made his directional debut with his first feature animated film, “My Beautiful Girl”, “Mari” (2002). The film recorded a grand success and received a warm response from viewers all over the world. The movie earned the title of Grand Prix winner (Best Feature Film) at the 26th Annecy International Animated Film Festival.
All the success provided lee with the attention of people worldwide. A few of his notable works include “Room of Sound” (2000), “Record of April 23” (2000), “Ashes in the Thicket” (1999), and “Ocean” (1998). Lee is particularly admired for his rational thinking and lyrical approach towards directing movies and short films. Some of his short films had been premiered at famous film festivals. For the second time, he decided to work on a real film, shockingly instead of an animated film.

He released his second feature film, “Texture of Skin” in 2005, though it did not receive as much recognition as his animations. So he got back to directing animation films and released “Yobi”, “the Five-tailed Fox”(2006), “Aksim” (2014), “A Monster in the Reservoir” (2012), “The House” (2010), “A Day of Water Giant” (2008), “If You Were Me: Anima Vision” “Bicycle Trip” (2005), and “Texture of Skin” (2005).

Lee’s mindset has been cleared from the very beginning and he wishes to create a world of directing that obstinately showcases pleasant and exquisite paintings and tidy, awesome stories.
