Lee Myung Se is a well-acknowledged South Korean Film director, and screenwriter. He is recognized among the best stylists of the Korean cinema world. He paved his way by beginning from scratch and has reached the peak of his career. Lee is widely known for “M” (2007), “Duelist” (2005), and “Nowhere to Hide” (1999).

He was born on August 20, 1957, and was also raised in Baekmajang, South Korea. After completing his early education, he went to one of the pre-eminent Universities of South Korea. He completed his graduation and got his degree in his hands. Following that, he decided to build his career in the film industry and looked out for numerous opportunities. He kick-started his journey as an assistant producer under the guidance of master Bae Chang-ho for the movies like “Hwang Jin-I” (1986), “Our Sweet Days of Youth” (1988), and “Dream” (1990).

Subsequently, he got the chance to work with several directors and learned new things from them. In 1991, he won the title of Best New Director for the film ‘‘Naui Sarang Naui Shinbu”, at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival, and later, he was awarded Special Jury Award for the film “Cheot Sarang” in 1993. He was admired for his exceptional style, directing skills and soon grasped international attention with the premiere of the film “Gagman” in 1988, featuring AHN Sung-ki and HWANG Cine. It was a colossal masterpiece that was praised by the British film critic Tony Rayns as “one of the most unique debut films in the history of filmmaking.”

He is known for showcasing real imagination with a pinch of exquisite sense of formality to his films. LEE took the risk of fusing actors’ most known faces and the least anticipated attributes in his every piece of work. For instance, the film named “Nowhere to Hide”(1999), which featured JANG Dong-gun, gave a turning point to his acting career. The film also received the highest acclamation from critics across Korea and was counted among the most loved Korean film amidst the foreign cinephiles.

All his endeavors have given him the status he deserved and he has been honored for his works with a few awards as well. He has won the Best Director award for (“M”) in 2007 at (27th) Critics Choice Awards and Best Director title for (“Duelist”) in 2005 at (25th) Critics Choice Awards.
