Lee kwang Mo is one of the most successful Film Directors in South Korea. He is counted among the most popular as well as wealthiest directors in the Country. He has also served as a producer in the Film Industry. His work has gained not only been recognized worldwide but has earned copious awards as well.

He was born and brought up in South Korea. Lee was given birth on January 28, 1961, in the former country. He did his schooling at one of the esteemed schools. Later, he went to Korea University and majored in English from there. Afterward, in 1988, he graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, in the field of film and television studies. There he developed a keen interest in filmmaking and decided to pursue his career in the film industry. He wrote several shorts, feature screenplays, and lectures at universities and film schools.

Following this, he got inclined towards filmmaking and landed several opportunities in the industry. In 1998, he wrote and directed his debut feature, ‘Spring in My Hometown,’ which was in the making for the past 13 years. The theme of the movie revolved around his memory of his father who died while he was studying in the U.S. This film was rewarded with an abundant number of awards. Its script earned the first prize at the 1995 Hartley-Merrill International Screenwriting Competition.

Not only this, but there are several others, for say, 1998 Tokyo International Film Festival: Gold Prize for New directors, 1998 Thessaloniki Film Festival: Special Artistic Achievement, 1998 Pusan International Film Festival: FIPRESCI Prize – Special Mention, 1999 Korean Association of Film Critics’ Awards: Best Director, 1999 Kerala International Film Festival: Special Jury Prize, 1999 Fribourg International Film Festival: Don Quixote Award, 1999 35th Baeksang Arts Awards: Best New Director, 1999 7th Chunsa Film Art Awards: Best Planning/Producer, and 1999 36th Grand Bell Awards: Best Director. All these awards were given to honor his dedication and efforts towards the movie. This movie provided him the spotlight in his country as well as across the globe.
