Nicknamed the “King of k-pop,” Kwon Ji Yong, also known as G-Dragon or GD for short, is a multi talented South Korean entertainer. GD is a singer, song writer, music composer, producer, fashion enthusiast, and an entrepreneur. GD was born in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, on 18th August 1988. He embarked on his journey in the music world in 2006 with the boy band named Big Bang and went on to be the biggest selling boy band worldwide. GD dropped his first solo album in 2009, namely ‘Heartbreaker,’ which also had the song with the same name. This album was commercially a big hit around the globe bringing the singer a lot of praise and earning him the best music album award at the Mnet Asian Music Awards. Apart from this, GD’s massive popularity made him the first Korean artist to go on a worldwide tour and perform in Japanese concerts. In 2013, GD dropped another solo album, namely ‘One of a Kind,’ which had three singles, namely ‘one of a kind,’ ‘Crayon,’ and the chart buster of the year, ‘the XX.’
GD was also listed among the top 30 most influential people of Asia by the Forbes magazine in 2016. Apart from his music career, GD had also taken dance training when he was eight years old till he turned 13. In 2017, he had to leave for his mandatory military service. GD was officially discharged from the military on 26th October 2019 after the completion of two years of mandate services. After almost two years of a break due to military service, GD is finally set to release his new album ‘Kwon Ji Yong’ in 2021.
