Kwon Hyuk was born on 1992 November 10 and was brought up in Hongeun Dong Seoul. He was also addressed as Dean. When he was in middle school, he developed an interest in rap and American music. He started singing in high school. He considered music an “escape from studying” rather than an occupation. He started writing a song and kept a secret from his parents. His parents enjoyed the music. Even though he was the first musician in the family, they supported his dream of becoming an artist. At sixteen, he began his career, performing with hip-hop artist Keith Ape. At the age of 18, under the name ‘Deanfluenza,’ he started writing tracks for K-pop stars.

The name Dean originated from the actor James Dean. His rebellious image repealed him, and the word ‘influenza’ signified his desire to make a “viral” impact on the music industry. When he was 20, he was under The tutelage of Joombas Music Group CEO and producer Hyun Shin. Dean debuted in 2015 with the single “I’m not sorry,” featuring Grammy winner Eric Bellinger. Later that year, in October, he debuted in South Korea with his second single, “Pour Up,” featuring Zico Block B’s rapper, at the Korean Music Show Awards in February 2016; it was named the best R&B and soul song. He collaborated with Zion. T, Crush, and Junggigo Korean hip-hop artists on the single “247, Dok2 on “I Love It,” and Dynamic Dou on “How you Doin‘?”.

Dean released the single “What 2 Do” featuring Filipino American singer Jeff Bernat and Crush on January 8, 2016. To protect Leontopodiumhallaisanense on Jeju island’s endangered flower species, he participated in a campaign with Kolon sport alongside Dae Doo Na. Dean was featured on Nafla’s Korean American rapper single “Under the ground” from his album, u n u part, on February 5, 2020. On November 3, 2017,

Dean made a special appearance at Busan in IU’s Palette Tour. They perform the duet “Can’t Love You Anymore” of IU’S. He is the first Asian artist to perform at Spotify house at SXSW alongside International artists Chvrches and Miguel in 2016.
