Kim Tae-yong is a film director and screenwriter from South Korea. He learned Politics and Diplomacy from Yonsei University and Filmmaking from the Korean Academy of Film Arts. Kim initially wanted to pursue writing but then changed his decision when he saw the vibrant atmosphere of working on a set. His debut in commercial films was with ‘Momento Mori’ (1999) – a sequel to the horror film ‘Whispering Corridors.’ His next film, ‘Family Ties’ (2006) brought instant fame and limelight to Kim. Kim’s next film, ‘Late Autumn,’ was a remake of Lee Man-hee’s 1966 classic ‘Manchu.’ He then redirected ‘Crossroads of Youth’ (1934) by performing Korea’s oldest silent film with live narration and musical accompaniment.

He has also hosted a cinema-themed TV show, shoot documentaries, and made cameo appearances in films like ‘Family Matters’ (2006), ‘All for Love’ (2005), and ‘Camellia Project: Three Queer Stories at Bogil Island’ (2005). He has also produced films like ‘155 Mile’ (2007) and ‘Under Construction’ (2006). Kim won the ‘Best New Director’ for ‘Momento Mori’ at the Baeksang Arts Awards in 2000.

His movie ‘Family Ties’ won many awards like ‘Best Director,’ ‘Best Screenplay,’ ‘Best Film,’ ‘Lotus Jury Prize,’ ‘Promising Director,’ and ‘Young Artist of Today Award’ at many award functions. ‘Late Autumn’ had the ‘Special Mention of the Jury of the International Federation of Film Societies Award’ at the Fribourg International Film Festival held in 2011.
