A man with exceptional talent who has directed plenty of movies that are acclaimed by critics all around the world is the one and only Kim Hak Soon. He is a worldwide famous South Korean film director and screenwriter. He has given a lot of appreciable works like “Man Watching Video” (2003), “Northern Limit Line” (2015), and “Kentucky Blues” (2008).
He was born in 1954. He was born and brought up in the Same Country, i.e. South Korea. He completed his early education at one of the prestigious schools in the country. After that, he went to a University for his further studies. He commenced his career’s journey after working as a sound man on 1994’s Sudden Change. He began as a short filmmaker via Dandelion in 2001. It attained quite a lot of attention from viewers across the country. Later, he made his future debut in the industry with “A Man Watching Video” in 2003. It was made on a book of the same name, featuring JANG Hyun-sung as a lawyer who surrendered his career to operate a video shop. The film gained immense recognition as it was widely screened abroad, for instance at the Edinburgh, Cairo, Singapore, and Bratislava International Film Festivals. It was also honored with the Asian New Talent award from the Shanghai International Film Festival.
Following that, he made a decision of taking a break from the role of director, though he produced a short film named White Night and the documentary titled Daughter of Chorolque in 2017. After a while, he returned back on track with directing and released a major war drama, “Northern Limit Line”. The film’s cast consisted of JIN Goo, LEE Hyun-woo and GIM Mu-yeol as South Korean soldiers who fought for their country in the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong of 2002. The film earned a colossal response from the viewers as it brought more than 6 million viewers 29 days after the releasing day, i.e. June 24, 2015, which made it among the top-grossing film in 2015. This gave him immense limelight around the world. His other notable works are, “Kentucky Blues” (short film, 2008), “Abandoned” (animation short, 2008), and “Dandelion” (short film, 2001). He has been awarded several titles, for say Best New Director at 2004 12th Chunsa Film Art Awards, Special Jury Award at 2004 Houston International Film Festival, NETPAC Award at 2004 Hawaii International Film Festival and there are several others. His work has consistently proven himself, due to which he’s succeeding in this line.
