Im Kwon Taek is a South Korean Film Director. He was born on 2nd May, 1936 in Changsong, Cheollananm-Do. He grew up in Kwangju, from where he completed his High School.

He has won a lot of National and International Awards which brought success to the Korean Industry. His family had faced many hardships and sufferings in the Korean War and moved to Busan in search of work.

Im Kwon-Taek was a labourer before trying to start a business recycling in US Army boots into shoes. Im Kwon-taek is married to Actress Chae Ryeong, who appeared in several movies.

In 1956 he moved to Seoul, where a Film director, Chung Chang-Hwa offered him work as a production assistant in exchange for room and board. After five years, inspired by his work Chung Chang-Hwa offered him work as a Director and did his first feature film in the year 1962.

His most prolific work, the film “Sopyonje” in the year 1993, won 27 domestic and three International prizes and also made a hit in the Korean market.

He is working since 1962 and is still actively working at present .
