Biography: Gina Kim

A personality for whom words aren’t enough to describe her because of her great achievements is only the exceptional Gina Kim. She has not only set her foot in the film industry but has given excellent work on it. She is a well-known film director, screenwriter, and film producer. Kim is also widely known as an innovative instructor. A few of his notable works are, “Invisible Light” (2003), “Faces of Seoul” (2009), and “Final Recipe” (2013).

She was born on 31 December 1973 in Seoul. Kim was raised in South Korea only. After completing her schooling at one of the prestigious schools, she went to the University to finish her further education. She did her BFA from Seoul National University, Fine Arts Dept. in 1996. Following this, she moved to the United States for pursuing MFA and completed it at California Institute of the Arts, Film & Video Dept. in 1999. After that, she dived into the world of the Film Industry and since then she has released only remarkable content. She has attained so much fame from fans around the world. Her five feature-length films and short films have bagged appraisal via screenings at most famous film festivals and at places like the MOMA, Centre Pompidou, and the Smithsonian.

She is considered as a woman with “a terrific eye, a gift for near-wordless storytelling, a knack for generating a tense gliding rhythm between images and sounds, shots and scenes, and for yielding a quality of radiance in her actors.” In addition, she has even taught at Harvard University, in which she received a Certificate of Teaching Excellence in the year 2004. Also, she has organized master classes around the country. She is the first-ever Asian woman to teach at the Department of Visual and Environmental Studies at Harvard University. She was considered among the “Top Teachers in Film, TV” in 2017.

Kim has even served as a member of the Jury for the 66th Venice Film Festival and the Asian Pacific Screen Awards in 2009. Talking more about her, she was chosen as “Fun, Fearless Female – Woman of the Year 2007” by Cosmopolitan Korea. Some of her notable works include Gina Kim’s “Video Diary”, “Invisible Light”, “Never Forever”, “Faces of Seoul”, “Final Recipe”, and “Bloodless”. All these provided her with utmost attention and fame in the Industry. Currently, Kim is working as a Professor at the UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television. She has received so much recognition from people around the world due to her exceptional workpieces.
