Following this, she moved to the United States for pursuing MFA and completed it at California Institute of the Arts, Film & Video Dept. in 1999. After that, she dived into the world of the Film Industry and since then she has released only remarkable content. She has attained so much fame from fans around the world. Her five feature-length films and short films have bagged appraisal via screenings at most famous film festivals and at places like the MOMA, Centre Pompidou, and the Smithsonian.
She is considered as a woman with “a terrific eye, a gift for near-wordless storytelling, a knack for generating a tense gliding rhythm between images and sounds, shots and scenes, and for yielding a quality of radiance in her actors.” In addition, she has even taught at Harvard University, in which she received a Certificate of Teaching Excellence in the year 2004. Also, she has organized master classes around the country. She is the first-ever Asian woman to teach at the Department of Visual and Environmental Studies at Harvard University. She was considered among the “Top Teachers in Film, TV” in 2017.
Kim has even served as a member of the Jury for the 66th Venice Film Festival and the Asian Pacific Screen Awards in 2009.
