Kentaro Miura , best known for his famous dark fantasy series ‘Beserk’ was a Japanese manga artist. Miura has received the Award For Excellence at the sixth Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2002.

Miura was born in Chiba, Chiba Perfecture in Japan. He was born on July 11, 1966. His parents were also artists. When he was ten years old, he made his first manga named ‘Miuranger’ and published for his classmates in a school Magazine. In 1977, he created his second manga ‘Ken e no Michi’. During his high school days, he and his friends got enrolled in artistic curriculum and published their works in school booklets.

Later in 1985, Miura submitted a short project’ Futatabi ‘for getting admitted to the art college of Nihon University . This project earned him the 34th Newcomer Manga Award from the Weekly Shonen magazine.

Miura had got a strong passion for illustration. Miura’s most famous and successful work Berserk  got serialized in Hakusensha’s Monthly Animal House in 1989. The quality of Miura’s pen and ink work makes Berserk special.  Due to its popularity Berserk was adapted as an anime series, animated movie, video game and a book. Nearly forty million copies of Berserk are in circulation, which makes it one of the most successful manga series of all the times.

Berserk got aired as a television series from 1997 to 1998, with twenty- five episodes. The series revolves around Guts and Griffith, two mercenaries. A  broadcast of twenty- four- episode anime adaptation of Berserk was done from 2016 -2017.

Miura had also worked on a lot of other projects. His 2019’s creation Duranki is all about a genderless protagonist who explores a world  inspired by old mythology.  Miura was always fascinated by the myths of ancient Greece and Mesopotamia. His 2013 miniseries Giganto Maxia was inspired by Greek myths.

His other works include King of Wolves, Ourou Den, etc. Miura never had an angry face as he always was a cheerful person having fun.

Kentaro Miura passed away at the age of 54 on May 6, 2021 due to a rare disease.  The cause of his death was acute Aortic Dissection (AD).
