Hiroaki Hirata is the founder of Hirata Production and a Japanese actor, voice actor, and narrator. He was born in Tokyo, Japan, on August 7, 1963. Hirata entered the Subaru Theater School after graduating from Toshima High School and subsequently joined Theatre Company Subaru.
In 1986, he made his stage debut in ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream.’ He auditioned for voice artist while working as a theatrical performer. He’s worked in animation and dubbed for several Western films since then. Some of his notable works in the television anime as a voice artist were Gibayashi in “Great Teacher Onizuka (1999)”, Sha Gojyo in “Saiyuki (2000)”, The Ninja in “Kinnikuman Ni-sei (2002)”, Allen Ridgeley in “Xenosaga: The Animation (2005)”, Tatsurou Ikeyama in “Kuuchuu Buranko (2009)” and many more.
In 2011, he won the 11th Tokyo Anime Award for ‘Best Voice Actor’ and the 6th Seiyu Awards for ‘Best Actor’ in a Leading Work for his role as ‘Kotetsu T. Kaburagi’ in the TV anime series “Tiger & Bunny.” He quit Theatre Company Subaru, where he had worked for almost 27 years, and founded Hirata Production in the same year.
Some of the Japanese anime movies where Hirata worked as a voice actor are Shinichiro Hata in “WXIII: Patlabor the Movie 3 (2002)”, Koga in “Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (2004)”, Cancer Deathmask in “Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary (2014)”, Baro in “Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms (2018)”, Billy Banx Jr. in “Burn the Witch (2020)”, etc.
Apart from being a voice actor, Hirata has dubbed for more than 100 American movies including anime. He’s also Johnny Depp and Matt Damon’s official Japanese dub-over artist. He also dubbed Ewan McGregor, Jude Law, Edward Norton, Noah Wyle and Josh Hartnett in a number of roles.
