Higashikokubaru became a comedian in 1982 after graduating from Senshu and had worked as an apprentice to Takeshi Kitano. Under the stage name ‘Sonomanma Higashi’, he rose to recognition as a comedian and actor, most remembered for his appearance in the popular game programme “Takeshi’s Castle” (1986-1990).
