Runje Shaw was born in 1896, Ningbo, Zhejiang, China. He was also known by the name Shao Zuiweng. He is a Chinese producer, director, and entrepreneur. He established the Tianyi Film Company. He was the oldest of all six brothers and owner of Jin Tai Chang, a textile firm in Shanghai. He was graduated with a law degree in 1914 at Shenzhou University and started working as a lawyer for local courts. Later he worked in a business of textile, dyes, silk, paper, etc, before moving on to the theatre business. He co-founded Sino-French Zhenye bank with many others as partners. His company’s first film, named A Change of Heart, was directed by him and released in 1925. He understood the people’s tastes and started working on various genres like traditional literature, myths, and legends. His successful films include Costume Drama, Gods, and Ghosts. He died in 1975 in Shanghai, China.
