He started his career as a screenwriter with Zhang Yang films, Showers, and Spicy Love Soup. Shi Runjiu, also his contemporary in the film beautiful new world, helped him a lot. He founded his own entertainment company named Electric Orange entertainment. His debut venture is directed by Zhang, Spring Subway. The Green Hat was his directorial debut with the comedy genre that was released in 2004. Later Ocean Flame was released in 2008. His latest works as a screenwriter are Plastic City, 2008; as director in Night Blooming, 2013; as a producer in Spring Subway, 2002. He was honored with the FIPRESCI Prize for Green Hat.
