In-Depth Analysis

The K-pop industry has come a long way and has been growing internationally in recent years. One of the strategic factors to keep the K-pop rage flowing is the neverending ways of providing exposure to the bands. This show is another example of the same. Instead of stopping at the official release of teasers and music videos of the albums, the curiosity and interest factor gets hyped with reality shows. This version focuses more on the competitive element where seven K-pop boy bands come together for a hardcore contest that’ll decide their position on an upcoming show, ‘Kingdom’. The above-said tactics are evident from the format and rules of the show. It begins by giving several hints one week before the show’s first recording. 1, 2, 4, 7 and 90 are the hint numbers. Number 1 means that a single band will get into the showdown. 2 suggests that there will be two eliminations in the process. 4 stands for the number of performances, whereas 7 is the number of bands. Lastly, 90 is the number of seconds for their preliminary acts. The rules for getting into the ‘Kingdom’ are as follows. The first rule is that two bands will face elimination if they receive the lowest points on the first and second performances. It will persist if one of the remaining six bands gets inadequate points after the third performance. The rest of the five bands will be criticized based on a points chart. In the case of the three preliminary performances, they should have respective 10,000 points in the first and second, and 15,000 points in the third performance. In addition, they’ll also get points based on views under their performance videos received on YouTube and Naver TV, with a maximum of 15,000 points. Comeback Singles calculated from its release time till 16th June 2020 at 23:59 (KST) will get added with a maximum of 15,000 points. Lastly, it’ll add the number of text message votes from all fans, which should carry a maximum of 35,000 points. The band with maximum points will get into the ‘Kingdom’. If a band that didn’t rank first overall takes first place in the Final live performance, then that band will be eligible for the pass in ‘Kingdom’. And if the overall winner is the same as the first ranker of the Final live performance, then that’ll be the only band to get into it.

The adrenaline drive is vivid from the tight-knot regulations. No wonder this will result in heartwrenching eliminations. This show levels the intensity of its already dopamine-propelled sequel ‘Kingdom’.
