TV Show Digest

It is a variety show where they bring boys from around the world to form the ultimate boy band. The intention is to accurately capture the youth’s tenacity, vigor, and stage presence. They select ninety trainees for the program, and six famous coaches will be in charge of helping them grow and develop through their mission, training, and assessments. The boys become better versions of themselves by taking on challenges, discovering who they are, and fervently pursuing their goals.

The Feel-Good Part

All of the trainees’ interactions were productive and characterized by a high degree of respect and support for one another. They almost gave the impression that the event was more of a group of friends performing together on a reality show than a contest. Since the show is international, there was hardly any language barrier as most of the boys knew more than one language.

The Disappointing Factor

Only ten episodes made up the entire season, so the production felt hurried and unpolished. There was not enough time to observe the trainees working on the songs and interacting with the mentors. Some mentors do not seem qualified enough to train the boys as they are not experienced enough in those particular skills.

In-Depth Analysis

Produce Camp 2021, also known as Chuang 2021, is the fourth and last season of the Chinese idol survival show Produce 101 China. Hainan Island is the location used for the show’s filming. This season aims to create an 11-members international boy band. The way they assess the trainees this season was also fascinating. In previous survival seasons, mentors were the only ones who could assign ranks for the trainees based on their initial performance. What is new in this season is that the trainees could vote for their evaluation alongside the mentors. Since the criteria for being an idol are arbitrary and do not just depend on one’s ability to dance and sing (though they are also important), it is much fairer. The stage presence, attitude, and charm of the trainee are also crucial. The mentors chosen for this season are fascinating. A few of the mentors of the show are Ning Jing (actor), Deng Chao (actor), Nene (of Bon Bon Girls), Amber (of F(x), Zhou Shen (singer), and Zhou Zhen Nan (member of R1SE). The show’s cast and crew have a lot of cultural interaction. The program serves as an example of cultural diplomacy in action and has helped to create a positive, inclusive, and culturally dominant perception of China. Through much elimination, this show gave rise to the boy band INTO1. The members of this band are Liu Yu, Santa, Rikimaru, Mika, Nine, Lin Mo, Bo Yuan, Zhang Jiayuan, Patrick, Zhou Keyu, and Liu Zhang.

Star Power

All the trainees showed their unique talents. They entertained the audience very well. The show being at an international level made it even more fun to watch. Numerous trainees could see development not only in terms of musical skills but also in terms of maturity, perspective, and personality.

Overall Opinion

If you enjoy watching survival and talent shows, this is for you. It has everything you would want in the combination of survival and talent. Highly recommend it!
