TV Show Digest

“Produce Camp,” also known as Chuang, is a 2020 Chinese variety show produced by Tencent Video. It shows the girl group as it progresses through its growth.

The Feel Good Part

The production quality for the show was very high. The trainees had a luxurious stay in Chuang in 2020. The living castle resembled a castle design, and the trainees were provided buses to the practice rooms. The show had a high budget with incredible stage decorations. Besides that, this 2020 show had loads of powerful vocal trainees and insanely great singers. The episodes were long and had a lot of content. Being a competition, it provided tension and entertainment, and the performances of all the participants were outstanding.

The Disappointing Part

Despite the feel-good part, the show had a lot of disappointments. Most of the viewers thought the extended run time was draggy. The competitive environment was also toxic to some, as passive-aggressive behavior was seen among the trainees. The screen time of the show was also biased toward a few participants.

In-Depth Analysis

The program calls for 100 students and includes various missions, training, and assessments that help them grow and improve. Five celebrity coaches guide them all along the show and in the end, 7 of the total will be chosen based on their performances to form a group. At the beginning of the show, the trainees have to go through an evaluation by the judges. After that, the evaluation is done on a theme song. For the song, each one of them is given equal time to memorize the lyrics and dance to it. Later in the show, many of them split into groups to perform on an evaluation stage with an audience. There, they showcase their talents as idols and are voted by the audience. But the voting doesn’t decide their final rankings. The final ranks are determined by online fan voting and audience voting. After every evaluation stage, a few of the trainees were eliminated. Trainees are narrowed down to 15 at the end and further evaluated to decide the last lineup.

Star Power

Celebrities such as Tao, Luhan, Mao Buyi, and Victoria Song were the coaches for the participants. The trainees were also highly talented and charming, which brought many viewers to the show.

Overall Opinion

Overall, the show has mixed feelings. While some viewers enjoyed the overall context of the show, including all the rules, many have also complained it was draggy and biased. But despite that, the show does not fail to provide entertainment. It has a competitive and comedic environment that suits everyone’s tastes.
