The Feel-Good Part

The stories the people share are also heartwarming and exude a soothing aura. The highlight of the series is surely the close-up shots of the delicious-looking food that is being cooked and consumed, justifying the genre of food documentary.

The Disappointing Factor

The major disappointing factor of the Flavorful Origin: Gansu is that the show at some point feels rushed and hurried in order to meet its short length. The narrator’s sound of narrating the show might annoy many, as he is the only one who speaks in the show.

In-Depth Analysis

The flavorful Origin series is the first Chinese original documentary by Netflix and has gained praise for each of its seasons. The third season of the series, Flavorful Origin: Gansu is not any different, and follows the same concept as its previous seasons. Being a food docuseries, the series not only focuses on only the food but also on how it is produced, and the detailed process of cooking is explained and documented in the series beautifully. In the third season, the show revolves around the province of Gansu, and how the demography and population affect their food choices and techniques, like its previous seasons, the ingredients are used from Gansu to cook the culinary specials of the Gansu province by some of the most gifted cooks and chefs of the province. The cinematography of the docuseries is outstanding and perfectly shoots the delicious-looking food, the aerial shots used in the series further add perfection to the cinematography. The food choices and culture reflect the population greatly, and the series successfully showed this aspect and informed the viewers about the Gansu province, its agricultural scenarios, and its special cuisines.

Star Power

Overall Opinion

Flavorful Origin is a popular docuseries among the fans, and the third season of the series, Flavorful Origin: Gansu surely didn’t disappoint the fans and stood up to the expectations. Surely, the show has its fair share of shortcomings that hinders its way to perfection, but even so, the show is well made and directed. The close-up shots of the dishes are bound to make you drool, so I would advise you to have snacks handy while watching this series. The process of cultivating food till it processes and comes to our dining table is beautifully explained in the context of Gansu province. Overall, I will recommend you this eye-pleasing food documentary, to treat your eyes with some yummy-looking cuisines and also to gain and expand your knowledge of different cuisine and their history.
