Movie Digest

Seong Hee is working as a personal assistant to the disabled. She lost her previous job due to a back injury. Seong needs a new job, so her Spain plans do not disrupt. She takes care of Hyeon Mok’s mother, who is severely handicapped. Seong Hee and Hyeon Mok do not get along at first but slowly get acquainted, and a beautiful friendship develops.

The Feel-Good Part

The long-take cinematography adds an extra layer of realism to the narrative that we can connect. It is refreshing to see such scenes.

The Disappointing Factor

There is a lack of closure in the story, which can be frustrating.

In-Depth Analysis

Seong Hee and Hyeon Mok did not get along at first. Hyeon thinks she was overpaid for her job and tries to assign her chores around the house. Slowly they got acquainted, and Seong helped Hyeon with his civil service exam, even though she failed the exam. This movie touches upon exam pressures and psychological and physical demands to look after the family at such young age. The alienation people experience in megacities results in their yearning for any connection. Seong and Hyeon’s relationship did not move to a romantic one because of it. This film showed us a take on the education system and the working condition in Korea, which are favorite subjects of Korean independent films. But this movie dwells deeper and focuses on the human connection.

Star Power

Moon Hye In (Seong Hee) and Kim Joon Hyung (Hyeon Mok) portrayed great chemistry in and out of the movie. The emotions were so raw and natural, which was impactful to the film.

Overall Opinion

It is a very realistic movie with varied emotions. Highly recommend giving this movie a try!
