The Feel Good Part

Evaporated or vanished is a movie based on the statistical missing cases of south Korea. When Choi Yong jin’s daughter goes missing from a playground near their house, he goes on a long search to find his daughter and although at times they may not get the results they want, the family tries to maintain their hope, as little as it may be. Hope is what keeps us going, it is stronger than any fear.

The Disappointing Factor

Some viewers may find the movie a bit heavy on the emotional side. The movie brought me tears and that upsets me, nothing is disappointing about this documentary movie.

In-Depth Analysis

I am a true crime fanatic; missing person cases are always scary to me because it’s the feeling of helplessness that arises when you lose your loved one but do not even know if they are dead or alive. The same goes through the minds of our protagonist, Choi Yong jin when she loses his daughter, she goes missing from a playground where she is playing. It is heartbreaking to see a family cope with the fact that their daughter has gone missing and then further settle with the thought that she may never return soon. The statistics of missing kids in South Korea are very high and some even go missing from inside their houses like they vanished out of thin air after the incident of them missing, settles down, all that is left is families gathering their life pieces back up from scratch. This documentary is very heart-touching, to see how the Choi family have not lost hope and how it has affected their family dynamics. Choi Yong jin’s wife has left him because she could not suffer the pain any longer and his daughters are going through the aftermath of their sister going missing. The documentary showcases how families sometimes drift apart when they lose a loved one because the stress and the depressing nature don’t go away, the hope of finding the missing person alive sometimes is what keeps most families carrying on with their lives but how long can somebody survive on just hope?

Star Power

The movie is well made, all the people in the documentary have told their stories so emotionally that it will surely make anyone sad.

Overall Opinion

Overall, the theme behind the show has been kept well. The stories told are sad and they make one think about how devastating it is to have your loved one go missing and then carry out your life for years in hopes to have them back in your arms. This is a must-watch documentary and it talks about the statistical and actual reality of a family member going missing.
