Movie Digest

Conversations with Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, as well as footage from their early days to their historic 2019 Coachella performance, where Blackpink became the first K-pop female group to hit center stage.

The Feel-Good Part

The focus of this documentary was on their trainee days, when they were evaluated and had to go through 5-6 years of training to become an idol. This film also illustrates how they feel about being a kpop idol and what they want to achieve. The closing moment, where they talk about their dremas and future like regular people, was the most touching for me.

The Disappointing Factor

The four members spoke forthrightly about the challenges of fame reality, a vicious and tough struggle for continued existence with long training time and the requirement of having fellow trainees and friends completely eradicated from the contest may , this disappoint some viewers who expected a happier and more fun documentary.

In-Depth Analysis

BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky is a behind-the-scenes look at one of the world’s most popular girl groups. Since BLACKPINK’s debut in 2016, this documentary features 4 years of breathless running. There were other videos that were not aired, including the life of the hostel and the tale behind the stage, from the days of apprentices until the day when they grew up to be a worldwide star.

Star Power

Aside from the good dose of realism, hearing the members talk about their personal stories before entering the industry and observing their day-to-day interactions was enjoyable.

Overall Opinion

Overall, a documentary that significantly boost your appreciation for Blackpink.
