Movie Digest

Kitahara Iori is looking forward to starting college on the Izu Peninsula and is getting ready to live in a room above dive shop Grand Blue, owned by his uncle. He gets surprised when he meets the neighborhood diving club, a bunch of buff men who prefer to drink, party, and get naked than dive. While his cousins try to introduce him to the wonders of diving into the ocean, Iori quickly becomes entangled in the antics of the diving club despite his best efforts to keep his distance.

The Feel-Good Part

The film focuses on the best parts of the manga, giving you a punch of the comedy throughout.

The Disappointing Factor

The plot of this movie took up the basic idea of the manga. So production team cut out many parts of the manga to fit into the time frame.

In-Depth Analysis

Grand Blue is an adaptation of Kenji Inoue’s manga. Anime of the same manga was the first adaptation. This film version is different from the anime. So if you have watched anime or read manga before, the film might not be all enjoyable for you. But on the other hand, this film took up all the comedic elements that will keep you entertained till the end. Even though the acting occasionally borders on the cringe-worthy, the plot and characters are likable, making for a good watch that will leave you feeling quite wholesome. Overall, it did a pretty good job bringing the main ideas of the manga without following the manga in the same order.

Star Power

All the cast did a great job embodying the characters and heightening the comedy in every scene.

Overall Opinion

If you are stressed out and want to relax, this film is what you need. Highly recommend it!
