God of Novels is a Japanese movie that was released in 2020, alternatively known as Our Story. The movie is based on a novel called, Shousetsu no Kamisama. The film tells the story of a novelist, Ichiya Chitani, who debuted as a novelist while in middle school. However, his novels are not popular and often get criticism, which hits on his self-confidence. Then another novelist, who is also a classmate of Ichiya is introduced, Koyurugi Shiina. An editor proposes that Ichiya collaborates with Koyurugi to write a heart-touching novel. The two teen writers are opposite of each other and even popularity-wise, Koyurugi Shiina is the most popular one.

The Feel-Good Part

The storyline of the movie is well-written and simple, which is well executed. The acting was also good along with excellent music. The music of the movie truly outshines every aspect of the film.

The Disappointing Factor

Even though, the music is the best part of the film, the volume, however, was a little too loud at some points which disrupts the scenes. Some characters were underdeveloped and could have been written better, given the characters were played by some talented actors.

In-Depth Analysis

The God of Novels is a live-action movie based on a novel written by Sako Aizawa, titled, Shousetsu no Kamisama. The plotline of the film is quite a simple one and there’s no complicated angle incorporated into the plotline, which makes it a light-hearted film. The film is an average one, which is neither too bad nor too good. The acting is good and very compelling. The main star of the film, however, is its music. The songs are very well-written and composed. The lyrics especially tell the story of the film and are quite meaningful. Kudos to the music composers and lyricists!

Star Power

Sato Taiki plays the male lead character of Chitani Ichiya, and Hashimoto Kanna plays the female lead character of Koyurugi Shiina. The supporting casts include actors Sato Ryuji as Kunori Masaki, Shibata Kyoka as Naruse Akino, Riko as Chitani Hinako, Yamamoto Mirai as Kono, Wakui Emi as Chitani Yuriko, Kataoka Ainosuke VI as Chitani Shoya, Kawaguchi Waku as young Chitani Ichiya, Sakaguchi Ryotaro as Nonaka, Shiraishi Yua as Tsukishima Miyuki, Oohara Yuki, Horita Kento, and many more.

Overall Opinion

God of Novels is a decent film to watch when you have nothing better to watch. The plotline is good and makes for an interesting film. The screenplay is such that it will grip the viewers till the end. The opposite personalities having to work together is an interesting element that will surely keep you entertained. Overall, you can surely watch God of Novels and should especially give attention to the lyrics of the songs, as the songs have their depth and meaning in the context of the film.
