The film, dubbed “My Indian Boyfriend,” is named “我男友係好差” in Chinese, which appears to feature the racist slur “阿差” (acha) for South Asians.
The title is a pun that means “My Boyfriend is Very Good.” However, because “好差” (ho cha) means “extremely awful,” the name in Chinese literally translates to “My Boyfriend is Very Bad.”

Sri Kishore clarified that the title has no negative connotations and should be interpreted in context.
Being a South Asian himself, the director assured the audience and the critics that there was no wrong intention behind the name of the drama.
This was not the first occasion the film’s Chinese title caused controversy. The expression “a cha” is generally associated with negative views of the South Asian community and is also used to insult the group, according to Hong Kong Unison, a non-profit that promotes the city’s ethnic minorities.
“It doesn’t have to be about the person who says it, but rather the society’s long-standing habits,” Hong Kong Unison decided to write in a Stand News editorial.
At the moment, actor Justin Cheung, who acted in other films, stated that the title of the film may be debated and altered if it is deemed racist.
