Movie Digest

Xia Tian breaks her relationship with a married man and returns to her homeland to look for a new job and take care of her parents. Her father, Xia Jianguo, suffers from Alzheimer and she would have to take extra care of him as the disease progresses.

As Alzheimer’s disease is a growing issue in the present Chinese society, the movie focuses more on its influence on the family and all the hardships the whole family goes through, in this case, Xia Tian and her mother Li Wenxiu, who is the primary carer and shows all the suffering she is going through.

The Feel-Good Part

There is no such feel-good part in the movie. The whole movie is really serious and painfully sad, and speaks about an important topic, without any inessential drama. You can feel what the family is going through and it hits right where it should. The only part which is somewhat feel-good was when Xia Jianguo had a flashback and he was dancing with her daughter. Xia Tian is a really good daughter and she does everything she can for her father.

The Disappointing Factor

Even though most of the movie is from Xia Tian’s perspective, we don’t get an in-depth journey of her life. Her character is underdeveloped and lacks something.

In-Depth Analysis

Xia Tian is a 30-year-old woman who comes back to her homeland to help her mother take care of her father, suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. She breaks up with her married boyfriend, who was also her boss, so she is also looking for a new job nearby which allows her to move in with her parents, who live on pensioners’ block from a meat-processing plant.

At a friend’s wedding, Xia Tian meets Qin Mu, an old classmate. They both go to visit their school and start connecting with each other and end-up dating. They both meet each other’s parents, but Qin Mu’s father is not very welcoming.

Xia Tian finds a job as a dancer in a traditional dance troupe. Meanwhile, Xia Jianguo catches acute pneumonia and acute respiratory disease and gets admitted to the hospital. When he comes back home, he is reserved in a wheelchair. On the other hand, Xia Tian’s and Qin Mu’s relationship is on the brink and they break up with each other.

Getting distressed with life, her father stabs himself in the neck and is rushed to the hospital.

Star Power

Tang Xiaoran, Zhang Hongjing, and Li Kunmian have done an exceptional job. You can feel all the emotions. They have conveyed the story in a very effective manner.

Overall Opinion

The movie is worth it. the whole movie is very constructive and is worth giving a try.
