Movie Digest

The film is based on the Cthulhu mythos and portrays a horror and adventure story that begins with a weird quantum mechanics experiment.

The Feel-Good Part

The opening scene, in which a tentacled blob monstrosity comes through the gateway and wipes out everyone in the room, is completely incredible, and the CGI for that looked fantastic. The music was also outstanding in some sections, but the sound effects and CGI destroyed any sense of immersion.

The Disappointing Factor

Poor direction cripples a fine tale. The premise behind this video is understandable, but it’s far too rough around the edges to be enjoyable. The director appears to have no idea how to create dramatic suspense or empathy for the characters, which are essential elements in a horror film. The CGI and latex masks for various creatures and aliens that we see throughout the film are appalling.

In-Depth Analysis

Private detective Xu Si Wei is tasked with tracking down a missing father. During the investigation, he unintentionally entered a parallel universe and came face to face with a monster from another world. Strange things continue to happen to him after he has escaped. He decided to get to the bottom of the problem to solve it. However, Xu Si Wei is being targeted by a massive scientific conspiracy.

Star Power

The two primary actors performed a decent job, which is impressive given the terrible base on which they had to work.

Overall Opinion

It’s decent if you’re into this sort of thing; as someone who enjoys all creature/lovecraft based horror/sci-fi, I enjoyed it for what it was; the effects aren’t significant, but they’re adequate; it’s probably a cut above Sci-Fi channel fare; it won’t go down as one of the better Lovecraft inspired films; ordinary people looking for a gripping story and Oscar-winning acting should look elsewhere.
