Drama Digest

“Yumi’s Cells” is a South Korean television series first released in 2021. It is a psychological romance that takes us through a journey in her emotional behavior while she is falling in love using fictional characters that represent cells in a human brain. The show specifically shows the story of Yumi, narrated by her cells. She is an ordinary, office-going woman. Her brain cells control her feelings and thoughts and make her act accordingly. Throughout the series, it shows her growth and development because of her cell’s determination. Season 1 of the show tells us about her relationship with Go Woong, a game developer engineer. However, in season 2 they break up and Yumi’s love cell undergoes a heavy trauma and is in a coma. But it wakes up once again after she starts a new relationship with her co-worker Ba Bi. Although the love cell is all out of hope and is scared, the other cells bring hope with their enthusiasm for this new relationship.

The Feel-Good Part

“Yumi’s cells” season 2 gained even more recognition than season 1 because of the outstanding actor Jinyoung. It shows the portrayal of human emotions and reactions from the human brain using fun characters that represent the cells. This season has a newness to it, which is even better than the previous season. The beginning of the show shows us a heartbroken Yumi, as she processes her recent breakup. The latter part of the show, however, shows us the excitement and nervousness initially experienced in a relationship. It shows the importance of Evey minor detail that our brain processes and releases as emotions. Above all, this show is highly relatable as it shows the common symptoms human beings experience when connecting with people.

The Disappointing Factor

Since it is a continuation of the previous season, it is equally excellent but some viewers are disappointed as Yumi’s relationship with Go Woong ended.

In-Depth Analysis

The season starts with the encounter of Yumi and Goo Woong as they say goodbye for the last time. It is painful for all the cells, especially the love cell as they break up. But Yumi was still hesitant in some ways as she wanted to contact him desperately again, but did not do it. Now, as she experiences detachment, a new person, her co-worker, comes to her attention as he tries to get close to her. She was hesitant at first but gave it a go as her heart raced near Ba Bi and she could have a great personality. As she spends time with him, her cells go through various faces, experiencing both storms and fireworks. The love cell wakes up from a coma but is still in a doubt about accepting Babi. It took us on a ride with the cells that lead Yumi to experience various emotions and mood swings experienced by everyone in their life at least once.

 Star Power

The sole reason for this season becoming more popular than the previous one is Jinyoung. His role as Ba Bi had a great influence on the audience. As a former K-pop idol and member of the K-pop band Got7, he drew the most attention to the show. One of the most popular actresses in the Kdrama world, Kim Go Eun also deserves equal credit for being an amazing actress. The two had a remarkable chemistry on the screen.

Overall Opinion

Overall, this show is full of warmth and will keep you excited throughout the show. It is funny and heartwarming as you go through various emotions along with Yumi. It is even better if you watched season 1 but still enjoyable without it.
