Drama Digest

This romantic comedy miniseries follows Han So Dam, a sixteen-year-old who receives her first love confession during a PE class. She was asleep when the person confessed to her and had no idea who it was. She is looking for the mystery boy using some clues – a gym uniform, a male voice, and a mango fruit scent. To single out the likely candidate, So Dam enlists the help of her friend BoNa and learns that there were only three boys who did not attend PE class – Park Ji Hoo, the ace of the Judo Club, Jung Han Kyul, a gentle boy, and Joo In Hyuk, who charms people with his mysterious vibes and Park Ji Hoo’s friend of 10 years. From here ensues a string of misunderstandings and shenanigans. Will So Dam find out the mystery boy behind her first confession?

The Feel-Good Part

This drama makes a creative subversion of the romantic confession trope. There were two instances – during the PE class and a drunken confession which left the audience on the edge of their seats. The romance is cute, light, and fluffy leaving butterflies in your stomach with little twists that throw you off from understanding which of the boys were the ones who confessed to her. The plot is refreshing, with the twist in the end, leaving the audience reeling. There are many funny scenes in the drama, such as the addition of So Dam’s bag pack, which kept the tone of the show light. Along with So Dam, her friend BoNa was also given attention and had a focus on friendships as well.

The Disappointing Part

The story relies on many cliches to quickly convey elements of the story since the drama is short. The duration of each episode is less to cover plot points, so even minor misunderstandings get resolved way too quickly.

In-Depth Analysis

The show covers many topics for teenagers, such as the pressure to have a relationship, the pressure to be attractive, how to maintain a friendship despite fights, and the different paths after finishing high school. It discusses many of topics for teenagers – how someone should not pressurize you for sex, the pressure to look good, and lying to look good such as Bo Na’s double eyelid surgery. The coverage came off as trivial and surface-level as it was a miniseries, so no in-depth discussion of these teenage topics was done.

Star Power

The actors were able to pull off the roles of teenagers very well with Lee Da Yeon as Han So Dam, Nana as Chae Bo Na, Yoon San as Park Ji Hoo, Park Jae Chan as Jung Han Kyul, Kang Tae Woo as Joo In Hyuk with the guest appearance of Moon Bin.

Overall Opinion

Overall, the show maintains a positive, fluffy, romantic comedy tone which makes it worth watching when you are in the mood for a short and sweet romance.
