TV Show Digest

International Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs worker Mizuki feels helpless and struggles to do her job steadily. Lien is a pregnant Vietnamese woman who has difficulty accepting her new situation. She is also unconfident with her mother as she has never known her mother. When Mizuki and Lien meet online and share their problems, Mizuki decides to reunite this separated mother and daughter. It also showcases the importance of the mother and daughter health handbook as it becomes globally known to be the bridge of connection between many mothers and daughters.

The Feel-Good Part

A handbook that provides maternal pieces of advice for new mothers and connects many countries with Japan is a great idea to execute in this show. The core concepts are emotionally driven and well portrayed. Many aspects of this show are realistic and believably carried out. It is a hopeful drama for women going through similar situations depicted in the show. It has two women going through different stages in life as one has difficulties related to work and the other is facing the anxiety of giving birth. This female-centred drama is fast-paced and easy to complete in a short time. The acting performances of the lead characters are decent. The characters are diverse with well-built storylines, and the dramatic aspects resonate well with the audiences. The side characters also provide beautiful subplots that can be interesting to watch. The show drastically changes from a light-hearted drama to a melodrama now and then.

The Disappointing Factor

This show provides a heart-stirring idea, but the execution of some parts feels half-hearted and bland. The plot doesn’t have many thrilling aspects but a simple storyline, which might not impress some audiences. Some over-the-top scenes felt unnecessary and ridiculous.

In-Depth Analysis

The show provides a story of mother-daughter connections that travel through space, time and worlds. It focuses a bit on Japanese people who are active participants in international cooperation. After a child is born, they give birth to their mother, who needs help while navigating through the first 1000 days recorded in a book, which gets internationally appraised. The drama also provides a story of love, hope, friendship, and courage of two different women unexpectedly connected through the internet while living in two countries. A woman working in the Ministry of Foreign affairs who has a hard time working has difficulty meeting new people and befriends someone online. When she understands that her new friend is going through serious trouble because of her unknown mother, she takes matters into her hand and tries to find her friend’s mother. Soon they form a close bond as they share many experiences. Japan’s WHO association president also seems to understand the importance of the generational handbook and became involved somehow.

Star Power

The director of this series is Yasushi Ueda. Shiraishi Sei plays the role of Mizuki Yoshizawa, Phuongchi portrays the character of Lien, KimuraYuichi plays Nakazaki Yasutomo, and Komiya Rio plays Hayama Shunto in this series.

Overall Opinion

It is a simple plot that provides an emotional story of motherhood and friendship. It is a heartwarming and uncommon drama that carries between two countries and is a decent watch for the audience interested in bigger-than-life stories.
