Drama Digest:

The tale of a music student who studies piano covertly in a junior’s house in order to get a chance to study abroad, but runs into trouble when he meets an unexpected visitor. It is a South Korean anthology television program produced and aired by KBS2. Yeo Myung Jae is the screenwriter and Lee Min Soo is the director.

The Feel-Good Part:

The lead actor Cha Hak Yeon from the Korean drama Tunnel a few years ago did a good job acting this. The classical music will be to your taste. It wasn’t anticipated that this would develop into a horror story.

The Disappointing Factor:

It’s a depressing and bitter conclusion to our story.  Ji-hoon eventually found himself back where he had begun, surrounded by filth.

In-Depth Analysis:

The protagonist of KBS’ drama special Stain, a pianist who merely wants to be permitted to play his beloved instrument, offers a chillingly bleak picture of poverty. This drama will leave you breathless by the end because of its outstanding acting, moving music, and unavoidable disaster spiral. Shi-young and Yeon-joon were the first two characters to consistently interrupt Ji-hoon and refuse to listen to him throughout the drama. They have the right to overlook Ji-predicament hoon’s because of their positions of authority; the poor have no voice in a society where having money gives one the ability to speak.

Star Power:

Our main character is GONG JI-HOON (Cha Hak-yeon, a.k.a. N of VIXX). He wants to be a pianist but lacks the resources to support his dream; he and his family reside in a small, run-down flat in a semi-basement. He “practices” on a sketch of a keyboard that is stuck to the ceiling above his bunk bed because that is all he can afford. When a cockroach crawls onto it, he squashes it to death, leaving behind a stain that resembles Ji-hoon in that Ji-hoon is regarded by the rest of society as an unsightly stain. Since his very first acting role, Cha Hak-yeon has gone a long way. Ji-character hoon’s was superbly detailed, and his spiral into desperation was so heartbreakingly palpable. Despite his occasional displays of brutality, it was obvious that he never acted maliciously; rather, he was so trapped that he saw this as his only option, no matter the cost.

Overall Opinion:

Stain tells a gripping story about a young man’s desperate endeavor to rise above his social standing and forge a better future for himself in just one hour. Creepy! If you enjoy horror, you’ll enjoy it; otherwise, avoid it. You’ll have nightmares about it. With incisive social commentary woven throughout that is never overbearing, the result is a gripping drama that frequently had me gasping for air due to its potent symbolism, oppressive atmosphere, and eerie piano sounds.
