Drama Digest

The drama series follows the story of two childhood friends who have been unsuccessful at their attempts to ‘First Love’ have gradually through the trials of life have grown affection towards each other. These high school buddies have stayed beside each other through school and university in Shanghai. Growing up and discovering themselves through the years, what turn will their lives take when fate has once again brought them back to each other?

The Feel-Good Part

The good part about this drama is how the story focuses on the main characters and their journey to each other in a seemingly more relatable/ realistic way. The show is well scripted and executed. It takes on a ride of emotions, where you’ll laugh and cry with the characters but True Colours is successful in keeping a smile on the viewer’s face most often. Love and friendship are once again given their meaning here.

The Disappointing Factor

The two episodes towards the end are quite rushed. And the plot twist with the male lead in them was also uncalled for, especially right before the ending. The series panned out perfectly from the start but the last episodes couldn’t carry out that perfection forward.

In-Depth Analysis

Mengyu being a financial genius and having an abundance of family connections starts a business while studying while Lu Jiajia who had been saving little money by doing odds to buy a cell phone for her long-distance boyfriend ends up having to work for Mengyu.

Through a series of breakups and realizations, the main characters eventually come to face their real feelings and their real selves. Lu Jiajia embraces the truth of her long-distance relationship and calls it off, while Mengyu has become prey to the school’s beauty and a master of Love, Xiao Hui, whose toying with him. It’s through the help of Jiajia does he realize the truth about Xiao’s actions.  Another character, Jiang Feng joins the tension between the leads in midst of all that is already happening, as the three of them get accidentally bound to live together. It is through these events, that make turning points in both their lives. The drama has beautifully focused on Mengyu and Jiajia since the beginning, and how their friendship gets blended in with a deeper love for each other.

One of the best parts is where humor is perfectly showcased dwelling in well with the overall plot, especially when the characters are stuck in quarantine. Many moments relate to the viewers over cherishing a long friendship and how they would react if ever placed in a similar situation.

Star Power

The cast brought out each character’s colors very well. As much as the story was very well written, it was also well-acted and executed. The chemistry, love, embracement is nothing short of wholesome.

Overall Opinion

With a sweet flow of drama and romance through the eyes of friends turned lovers, True Colours, is worth the watch.
