Drama Digest
The story revolves around Hu Guanglai in the year 1990, who lived and worked at a factory compound. He was a passionate person and was very close to his family. He also had good relations with the community police and the security party. One sad day, his sister came home crying as she was assaulted and harassed by a group of people, which made Hu Guanglai extremely furious and impatient. He went to that group to seek revenge but killed someone accidentally. His case was taken to court, and as a punishment, he has sentenced to life imprisonment. He spent many years in prison and suffered so many things. His prison life was bleak and unfortunate. Despite the abandonment from his family and society, the community police, and the party never left his side. A few years later, his punishment was reduced, and he was finally released from prison because of his kind, giving nature and good behavior. He was accepted and taken in by Mei Xiang, who was also an ex-prisoner and currently is the owner of a funeral parlor. He regained his dignity and wanted to become a better person. He finally had hope in his life. He then met with Wu Lei, who always bought trouble to himself. Hu Guanglai wanted to prevent Wu Lei from making the same mistakes as he did. He then began to look after him, and they led a life toward betterment. The party was passed on to Hu Guanglai and with the help of Mei Xiang, they started working for people who returned from serving sentences to lead a good and better life.
The Feel-Good Part
The storyline of the show was terrific. They portrayed the importance of change, which one required to become a good person.
The Disappointing Part
The show overall was a great watch, besides a few minor flaws.
In-Depth Analysis
The show revolves around how Hu Guanglai managed to bring changes into his life. He was a devoted brother and a best friend. He did everything he could to help his family and his best friend. His unexpected friendship with the community police was sweet. He maintained his friendship even after the police’s death by searching for the person who killed his best friend and seeking revenge. The reason he went to jail was quite unfortunate. He was only trying to seek revenge for his sister but ended up killing someone. The time he spent in jail made him realize a lot of things. Coming out of prison, he instantly wished to become a better person and help others. He did not want Lu Wei to end up in the same phase as he was in, so he helped him out even though it could have caused trouble for Hu Guanglai. The story did get confusing at times, but overall it was a great watch. The music was excellent too. It enhanced the scenes and made them more enjoyable to watch.
Star Power
The cast did an excellent job. The drama was not based on romance, but the chemistry that all the actors shared was impeccable. Li Guang Jie played Hu Guanglai; Hu Jun played Quan, and Jiang Xin played Mei Xiang. They all performed exceptionally well. The supporting cast did an excellent job as well! Guo Ge, Leon Li, Dang Hao Yu, Song Jia Teng, Bao Bu Yung, etc. all did their roles well. The series is directed by Zheng Xiao Long.
Overall Opinion
The show is quite underrated but is excellent and neatly done.
