Drama Digest

Su Yu’s fiancée, Gu Man Man, suddenly disappears one day. While searching for her, Su Yu meets a girl called Qiao Mai, who looks exactly like his fiancee. Qiao Mai is very different from the affluent and confident Gu Man Man in circumstance and character. But to please his ill grandfather, Su Yu requests Qiao Mai to play his fiancée until they find some trace of Gu Man Man. However, Su Yu and Qiao Mai unexpectedly fall in love during their act of play-pretend.

The Feel-Good Part

The drama has a fun and sweet plot, and the romance between the whirlwind two leads is heart-warming. The doppelganger plotline also adds a lot of humor to the script and makes it a fun watch. The love triangles in the storyline quickly sort out, allowing us to focus more on the main characters. As it is a miniseries with short episodes, the drama is also a quick watch perfect for binging, well suited for those looking for a short fluffy romantic comedy.

The Disappointing Factor

The short duration of the episodes leaves them feeling choppy and fragmented and makes the plot seem too abrupt. Such an episodic format also leaves no scope for character development, and as a result, all the characters are one-dimensional, and the story feels very predictable. The drama is also extremely cliché- full of overused tropes. The plot lacks any originality. Even the drama poster looks like a rip-off of the one for the k-drama What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim. The low budget for the production also becomes evident in the substandard sets and poor sound editing.

In-Depth Analysis

Just Fiancée feels more like the outline of a drama than an actual drama. The short running time rids the characters of any depth and makes their fast-paced romance seem unrealistic. Overused tropes such as a Cinderella backstory for the female lead also tire the audience. However, this drama does execute many cliches well. So, if you are a person who enjoys cliché stories, then you will inevitably appreciate this drama.

Star Power

Lin Ke Han and Lu Yuan act competently in the lead roles, and their great chemistry adds much to the show. Lu Yuan acts out double roles, playing two characters with very distinct personalities, and the fact that she is believable as both are commendable. However, the acting skills of the supporting cast are weak, and they often feel like caricatures of themselves.

Overall Opinion

If you are looking for a short and light romantic comedy and like cliché plots, you will surely enjoy this drama immensely. Its short duration also makes it perfect for binging. The lead couple’s romance is also adorable and keeps the audience cheering for them. However, the drama disappoints in too many departments, with shallow characters and weak writing. These weaknesses might make it seem like a waste of time if you are a fan of well-developed characters and a solid plotline.
