The Feel-Good Part

The suspense within the drama is nail-biting. The moments that keep you on the edge of your seat make you wonder what will happen next. Although being produced in recent times, it does feel nostalgic. It feels reminiscent of the 90s detective dramas and shows where we see a group of individuals working together to solve a case. The show is fun and energetic and feels excellent. The drama’s setting also aids in the various factors that affect the outcomes of the investigations and the quests. While the show’s central focus is the mysteries and conspiracies behind the Nine Palace Treasure, we also get glimpses into each character’s life and what leads them to the Jiu Long Uniform Embroidered Guards.

The Disappointing Factor

While the setting of the drama makes for interesting symbolism and storytelling, visually, there is not any that is so striking that it leaves you in awe. Often it appears a little dull and uninspired. With a drama set in the Republican era, there are a lot of opportunities to create stunning visuals in both setting and cinematography, and the show does not do much with it. Another disappointment within the show is that it takes itself too seriously, especially in the thriller and action parts. As much as the storyline is reminiscent of the early 90s detective and crime-fighting shows, the only missing element is that light-hearted and wholesome nature gets lost in unnecessarily tense moments.

In-Depth Analysis

The Republican era had its own distinct rules and regulations and to see them translated on screen in a good way or an exciting manner is always. The problem with this drama is that it gets lost in what it’s trying to portray. But regardless of its issues with identity, it is a pretty interesting story with characters to add to the intenseness of the drama.

Star Power

The drama was released on Youku and is available for free viewing on YouTube. The accessibility of this show is why so many people watch and why so many people enjoy it. Youku is known for a wide range of dramas such as Immortal Samsara, Falling Into Your Smile, Word of Honor, Please Feel at Ease Mr. Ling, The Blue Whisper, Fall in Love, and Martial Universe. Most of these dramas have a touch of history with them that adds to their appeal. Our four lead roles are Liu Giu Yuan, played by Lu Yun Feng, Shi Le Zhi, played by Jiang Yi, Lin Feng Er, played by Jiang Rui Ze, and Lu Xiang Yi, played by Feng Li Li. Together they play off each other well and give us a perfect look into a group of individuals that work together towards a common goal. They also manage to have individual identities so that audiences can relate to them on a more personal level. Lu Yun Feng stars in dramas such as The Ultimate Ranger, Men with Sword 2, The Distant Distance, Like a Flowing River, To Get Her, and KO One Re-member. Jiang Yi stars in dramas and movies such as Way Back Into Love, Qin Dynasty Epic, Tiger Robbers, and Medical Examiner Dr. Qin. Jiang Rui Ze stars in dramas such as KO One Re-call, Medical Shop, Sweet Boyfriend, Be With You, and Forever Love. Feng Li Li stars in dramas such as Lala Shining Days and The Imperial Doctress. We also have significant supporting roles from actors such as Jin Hui, Yang Chao Wei, Zhang Ting Xin, Yin Chen Di, Ji Lu, Sun Zhi Hong, and many more.

Overall Opinion

There is great suspense and mystery within this show, and it makes for a great viewing experience. There is a lot you can take away from it, especially from the good parts of this drama.
