Drama digest
This is a Chinese period drama portraying the immortal love between the two leads in a period of sacrifices. The female lead, Yan Dan, is the sole survivor of her clan, along with her twin sister. She falls in love with the male protagonist who’s the prince of some legendary clan. This series tells their love story. This is the second part which is the continuation of the first season.
The Feel-good part
The production and the vibe of the series is marvellous. Everything on the set looks royal and graceful. The show is a star-studded one with multiple famous actors in major roles. The story is a cute one, and the visuals are appealing.
The disappointing factor
The pacing of the show is a major issue. It’s fast in some areas and slow in other. The acting is stiff in places.
In-depth analysis
Yan Dan, the female lead of the drama, is a writer by profession. With her selfless and confident personality, she’s definitely a character. Yan Dan is a descendant of the infamous ancient tribe of four-leaved lotus. She also has a twin sister, Zhi Xi. Though they weren’t born as humans, both of them transformed into humans due to an incident in the past that has caused them to stay immortal. On the other hand, there is a male protagonist named Ying Yuan. Yuan is the head prince of the Nine heavens. At a young age itself, he was bestowed upon the responsibility of looking after his clan. This further molded his personality. He’s a strict personality who likes being flawless at everything. He binds himself to strict discipline and does not leave any space for a single mistake. Though he’s harsh, he’s a loving person on the inside. When Yuan and Yan Dan meet, they instantly click. With time, they grow fond of each other and fall in love. They start loving each other so deeply that it becomes impossible for them to live without each other. There’s another third character in the drama, Yu Mo. Yu Mo is a man who’s been in love with Yan Dan for a long time. And even though he kept trying, he could never become the romantic interest of Yan Dan. But he decides to stay by her side and help her with everything she wants. All three of them set out on a quest of discovering various legendary artifacts that have some history behind them. In the second season, Yan Dan and Ying Yuan begin with misunderstandings among them. Yuan had erased Yan’s memories due to a particular purpose she had no knowledge about. Even though their love remains more vital than ever, will they reconcile after all this?
Star power
The female lead is the main star of the drama. Played by Yang Zu, she carries the show with her range in acting and stands out from the crowd. She portrays a confident, charismatic, selfless and mischievous personality which is attractive overall.
Overall opinion
Unlike most dramas, this second season was more appreciated than the first one. The first season might’ve seen sloppy storytelling but they revived it in the second one without any space for flaws. This is a highly recommended drama.
