Drama Digest

Immortal Samsara: Part 1 tells the story of Yan Dan, the only successor of the ancient four-petaled lotus family. The entire body of Yan Dan is a treasured collection of medicine. A hundred years ago, she and her twin sister Zhi Xi took on human forms when they participated in the Queen Mother Festival, Yan Dan faces the greatest test of her life: the test of love.

The Feel-Good Part

Immortal Samsara: Part 1 stands out a lot due to the mature and considerate relationship between the two main couples. The camera work, cinematography, sets, costumes, and CGI are amazing. The production team of this show carefully designed everything and it is evident.

The Disappointing Factor

It’s too stylized, with little wiggle room for stories or themes. Even though adapted from a popular story, the show still caters to the cliches. A cold hero who saves the heroine every single time. Even though the female character was well written it seems like a wasted opportunity.

 In-Depth Analysis

Immortal Samsara: Part 1 tells the story of Yan Dan, the only successor of the ancient four-petaled lotus family. The entire body of Yan Dan is a treasured collection of medicine. A hundred years ago, she and her twin sister Zhi Xi took on human forms when they participated in the Queen Mother Festival, Yan Dan faces the greatest test of her life: the test of love. After she fell in love with Lord Ying Yuan, she wasted her next 900 years forgetting him. Now her Yu Mo who supports her appears in her life and encourages her to do her good deeds every day. In the process of punishing evil and promoting good, they meet Tang Zhou, a demon hunter reincarnated as Ying Yuanjun. They help Tang Zhou find the four ancient artifacts and reveal an even darker secret. The tropes of angst, misunderstanding, unpleasant side characters, and betrayal are present throughout, but it’s part of the Xianxia-slash romance. Interestingly, aside from the fact that Yan Dan and Ying Yuan have almost the same hobbies and personalities, their personalities are completely complementary, and their dreams and goals in life are also completely different. Yet, even when they quarreled, they continued to grow and thrive once they engaged and communicated with each other.

Star Power

The star power of the show is the main actors. The chemistry between the male lead and the female lead complements each other. All of the supporting actors are also great actors.
