Drama Digest

Initially, it is from the Chinese drama ‘I don’t want to be brothers with you’ (2022).

The father-son relationship of Gao Bin and Gao Yang is incomprehensible. Despite being brought up by him, Yang Yang acts rebelliously, often skipping school, engaging in notorious activities and testing the teacher’s patience. One day he gets the news of a new transfer student in his class. He is a 17-year orphan teen Ye Xiao Wen. Gao Yang gets frustrated with him. But he has already given him his seat due to a misunderstanding, and Xiao Wen refuses to leave his side. Later, surprised Gao Yang finds that Gao Bin brought Ye Xiao Wen to live with them. Unaware of his past background Gao Yang gets infuriated that he has to share almost everything with him. Nevertheless, as they start to know each other, Gao Yang is determined to help fulfil Ye Xiao Wen’s dream and to protect him at all costs.

The Feel-Good Part

As the drama gains pace, scenes of brotherly affection between Gao Yang and Ye Xiao Wen flourish. Holding this thread, Gao Bin’s relationship with his son also deepens. It captures such heartwarming sibling moments and interprets the idea of family differently.

The Disappointing Factor

None.

In-Depth Analysis

The drama holds many uplifting and compassionate brotherhood moments. It talks about youth with all its nostalgic elements but thankfully, rather than churning out some love story over and over, the fluency gains on friendships, bonding and redefining family. The character development in this drama is one of the many exquisite factors. Gao Bin’s transition from an angry father and teacher to a visibly caring and responsible person is gratifying. The change in Gao Yang’s nature once he connects with Ye Xiao Wen and acts like a protective brother is noticeable from his actions as a second coach towards him. Amidst hysterical routine banters, the drama doesn’t fail to capture how it brings them together. Xiao Wen’s introverted nature slowly unveils, and he shifts into a bright and promising student due to the influence of these nurturing bonds. The sync in fluency developed among these characters makes it more relatable and fun-filled. It doesn’t go overboard with emotions. Neither does it lack those depictions. The promising and professional actions of the cast keep the story on the ground.

The storyline is simple, but it highlights little things significant in daily life. Whether it’s school tests or competitions, everything becomes of relevance, like life in common. This depiction of ordinariness polished to carry the meaning of routine ventures makes it closer to mundane life. There are some flaws where it tends to move away and focus on dramatic elements. But those minorities are too tiny to extinguish the overpowering aura of a slice of life.

Star Power

Xin Yun Lai and Chen You Wei were staggering as brothers Gao Yang and Ye Xiao Wen. Their performance was natural and delightful. The contour of the characters’ transition is beautiful, thanks to their splendid acting skills. They were one of the central potions for laughter, love and heart-melting compassion. Amy Chen, Sabrina Zhuang, Zhou Yan Chen, Kido Ma, Zhao Zhao Yi and Anna Liu performed beautifully and enhanced the dramatic rupture of emotions.

Overall opinion

Lighthearted and funny is the definition of this drama. It is a great one to share some immersive family time with whomever. Its lively ambience won’t dishearten if watched alone. With or without company, this drama matches right with your smile.
