This drama is adapted from a famous novel with the same name, written by Eileen Chang. The story is about two sisters, Gu Man Zheng and Gu Man Lu, facing troubles as their family collapses. This drama is set in the 1920’s to 1930’s time period.

The Feel-Good Part

This drama is heart touching, as the two sisters fight against the society’s expectations to live happily. A lot of life lessons can be learnt while we watch this movie.

The Disappointing Factor

This story is tragic, it might not satisfy the viewers expectation of a happy ending. This story makes you realise that “Life is too short to be too late“ as quoted by the writer Eileen Chang.

In-Depth Analysis

As their family goes into ruins, Gu Man zheng takes up a receptionist job and Gu Man Lu works as a hostess in a night club. Man Zhen falls in love with her co-worker Shen Shijun who is in relationship with Man Zhen despite being engaged to Shi Cuizhi. Cuizhi is in love with Shijun’s friend Xu Shuhui. Gu Man Lu marries a cunning guy named Zhu Hongcai and leaves her job and becomes a housewife. Man Zhen and Shijun reunite after many years wedded to someone else.

Star Power

This is Joe Cheng’s first historical drama and he did an excellent job as Shen Shijun.

Overall Opinion

This story is entertaining and one can learn a lot of love lessons and life lessons from it. Life is too short to be too late, don’t make any decisions that can be regretted.
