Drama Digest

Flower and Sin is the story of two police officers, Ma Dong and He Yuqing. Ma Dong is a fierce detective with a keen intellect; on the other hand, even though He Yuqing is a rookie detective, she shows great determination and capability. The main idea behind the story is about these two making a fantastic team together to solve some pretty extreme cases.

The Feel-Good Part

The best part of the show was its intense pace which didn’t let any moment go dull or uninteresting in the drama. The show is created to keep the viewers hooked on the story, and the camera work and direction help to establish a beautiful impact.

The Disappointing Part

The only issue with the drama is the over-dramatism with which it presents itself. We know solving criminal cases is a serious issue and the cases in the show were heavy, but the lines were trying to create a more dramatic environment in the show than necessary. Nobody, especially people dealing with these things regularly, will talk about things like that.

In-Depth Analysis

Ma Dong gets a transfer order to Yuqing City as a punishment for not obeying orders and messing with the higher-ups, but that will not stop our hero from having his way. With a long history of working on criminal cases and stubbornness that comes with great insight, he has his way of solving a case. Combine this messy character with an equally stubborn, ambitious, and uptight rookie who’s used to doing everything by the book, or at least within the set of rules. You are certain to witness an explosion. Even though their working ethics are polar apart, they make a pretty good team as Yuqing is still a rookie in the field, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to back down and take a side seat. As a team, they solve some of the toughest cases in the city uncovering big secrets. The show includes cases involving suicide, sexual assault, murders, illegal distribution of adult content, and more. Ma Dong started working on his first day of transfer, and since then, there’s been no backing down. The pace of the drama helps in keeping you on your toes. The emotional baggage of our leads also keeps you interested in their lives.

Star Power

The show stealers of the show were none other than the leads of our show themselves. The actors playing Ma Dong and He Yuqing did a fantastic job at playing their characters. Both of their characters had layers of complexity, but both actors played it with such ease; that it felt effortless. The strong female character was a personal favorite.

Overall Opinion

The drama was complicated enough to keep you hooked but not complex enough to make you rack your brains for answers. The show was simple and intense. The characters of a bad-tempered and stubborn male lead and a straightforward and ambitious female lead have already appeared repeatedly. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not compelling. The drama lacked originality, if anything. because these are the cases; we see all the time in crime thrillers. But overall, the show was a good package within its limits.
