Be it any K-drama or movie it is quite important for a leading or even supporting role to be cast well in the entertainment industry. Quite a few times, a certain well-known celebrity will get offered a role for a character. It could be up to them to accept these roles or decline them. Many times these actors and actresses decline these big roles due to some scheduling or conflicts of interest could be a reason. Here is a list of the top ten Korean actors who rejected big roles.

1. Jang Keun-Suk 

Jang Keun-suk is a South Korean singer and actor. He is well known for starring in the Korean TV dramas Beethoven Virus, Love Rain, You’re Beautiful, and Pretty Man. At first, Jang Geun Suk was allowed to play Goo Joon Pyo in Boys Over Flowers. He turned down this offer. He had agreed to play a part in the drama Beethoven Virus, which was the cause. Given that Boys over Flower rose to become one of the most-watched Korean dramas worldwide, and would not be a good choice. Lee Min Ho is the only person we can think of to play Joon Pyo, though.

 

2. Bae Suzy

Suzy Bae was offered the role of Hong Seol in the drama Cheese in the Trap. The role was done excellently and flawlessly by Kim Go Eun. Since the drama was based on a webtoon, everyone gets aware of the character’s appearance, and they felt Suzy was an odd choice for the part. Suzy declined the offer due to her busy music schedule, and it became quite difficult to coordinate with the drama’s filming schedule.

 

3. Song Joong Ki 

Originally, Kingdom planned to cast Song Joong-ki for the role of Lee Chang the Crown Prince in 2017. He declined the offer due to scheduling difficulties and as he wanted to focus on his wedding preparations with Song Hye-Kyo. Instead, Ju Ji-hoon played the role and gave an amazing performance. The series was so successful that it’s expected to release the third season soon.

 

4. Park Bo-Gum 

A Korean Odyssey is a fantasy-themed drama which features a little girl who has a human perception. It was initially offered and intended for Park Bo Gum, but he declined it. The next actor to be approached was Lee Seung Gi. This was his first TV series since his release from military duty. With this comeback performance, he stole the show.

 

5. Song Joong Ki 

Song Joong Ki turned down another famous role for the drama The Moon that Embraces the Sun. He was originally offered the role that was eventually played by Kim Soo Hyun. He declined this role as he believed it was too similar to the role he played as King Sejong. Kim Soo Hyun rooks the role instead, and the drama became a huge hit in 2012

 

6. Gong Yoo

The enormously well-known action-romance K-drama after his performance rose to even greater fame. Gong Yoo turned down the lead role in the drama Descendant of the Sun, which ultimately was given to Song Joong Ki. He declined the offer as he didn’t want to stay abroad for too long and wasn’t quite comfortable with shaving his hair.

 

7. Jung Yong Hwa

Jung Yong Hwa was offered the role of Choi Young Do in the drama The Heirs but he declined it and the role was played by Kim Woo Bin. Jung chose the drama Marry Him If You Dare instead of The Heirs, he said even though it was an attractive role he wanted to try something other than a student role. Kim Woo Bin, however, was an excellent fit for the role and we cannot criticize him. He created a character that will live on forever.

 

8. Kim Woo Bin 

According to the production team, Lee Jong Suk was not the first choice for the K-drama Pinnochio. Kim Woo Bin was the first choice for the role of Dal Po, but he declined the offer due to a busy filming schedule. But since Lee Jong Suk accepted the part, he became our favourite lead, and we were not at a loss.

 

9. Chun Jung Myung

Chun Jung Myung was expected to take the role of Choi Han Kyul in the popular NBC drama, Coffee Prince, but due to a promise, he made a year before he had to decline the offer. His filming schedule;e of the movie Hansel and Gretel overlapped with the production of the drama. Chun Jung Myung commented that it is something he will always regret all his life.

 

10. Hyun Bin 

In the famous psychological drama Kill Me Heal Me, Hyun Bin could have been our Perry Park, but due to work restrictions, he was forced to decline the part. The role was played by Ji Sung, whose character had multiple personality disorders. Viewers were quite impressed with his flawless performance and that it would have been difficult for Hyun Bin to match it.
