While the year 2021 has already come out with some bangers, here are 10 more upcoming K-dramas that are waiting for their release and blow everyone away –
1. Cliffhanger/ Mount Jiri
Set to be released on 23 October 2021, the show tells the story of rangers and employees working at Jirisan National Park. The show has a star-studded cast with My love from Another Star actress, Jun Ji-Hyun and Kingdom fame holder Ju Ji- Hun taking the lead roles. They will be joined by experienced and beloved K- Drama regulars Sung Dong-il and Oh Jung-Se.
2. Snowdrop
Set in the critical year of 1987, the show tells the story of a student, Im Soo-ho who is found covered in blood in the women's dormitory and Eun Young- Cho, who helps and hides him there. The show came under controversy while it was in production for allegedly distorting historical facts and almost got cancelled. This show also marks the debut of Blackpink’s Jisoo as a lead actress and she will be sharing the screen with Jung Hae-in, Yoo In-na, Kim Hye-Yoon and Yoon Se-ah.
3. The Silent Sea
Based on the short film, The Sea of Tranquillity, the show stars Train to Busan actor Gong Yoo, Bae Doona and Lee Joon. This show is a Sci-fi mystery thriller set in the future where the earth has undergone desertification and a team of scientists are sent to the moon to retrieve some unknown samples.
4. Now We Are Breaking Up
Starring Song Hye Kyo and Jang Ki-young, this show is a romantic drama, scheduled to be released in November. This series revolves around love and breakups against the backdrop of the fashion industry. Song Hye Kyo plays the role of a team leader of a fashion company and Jang Ki-young plays a freelance photographer.
5. The Red Sleeve Cuff
Starring Lee Jun Ho and Lee Se Young, the drama is a historical romance set in the 18th century. It tells the story of king JeongJo and Imperial concubine Ui .It is scheduled to air on 5th November 2021 on MBC.
6. Youth
Youth has gained popularity even before the show has hit the screen. The show is set in the BTS universe and takes inspiration from the lives of BTS members themselves. The characters in the show are alter egos of the real-life band members and show their journey through their earlier years as a band before their debut. The show has rookie actors such as Seo Ji-hoon, Noh Jong-hyun, Ahn Ji-ho and Seo Young-Joo.
7. The Name
This is an upcoming Tv drama starring Nevertheless fame actress Han So-hee as the lead. The show will also be premiered at the 26th Busan Film Festival and stars Park Hee-soon and Ahn Bo-Hyun alongside So-hee. The show follows a woman who seeks vengeance for her father’s death and joins a drug gang. There at her boss’ command, she joins the police department to become a mole.
8. Pachinko
Pachinko is based on a book by the same name, written by Korean- American writer Min Jin Lee. It tells the story of a Korean immigrant family and their struggles. It stars Lee Minho, Youn Yuh-jung, Jin Ha, Anna Sawai and Soji Arai. The show will be releasing on Apple tv+.
9. Reborn Rich
The show started gaining attention after the confirmation that actor Song Joon Ki will be joining the cast as the lead. The show also stars Shin Hyun Bin and Lee Sung-min. The show follows the story of a loyal employee who gets charged with embezzlement and is murdered by his employer. He then finds himself in the body of his employer’s youngest son and decides to take revenge.
10. Big Mouth
The show stars Lee Jong-suk and Im Yoon Ah as leads in this show about events in response to a third-rate lawyer taking charge of a murder case. The show will release next year and is one of the most anticipated ones as Lee Jong Suk is known to be making his comeback with this show after completing his mandatory military service.
