Bullying Scandals have been appearing in the Korean Entertainment Industry, much to the shock and dismay of fans. Korean celebrities in the industry were being accused as the perpetrators and entangled in such scandals. These scandals have had different results for everyone as scandals have ruined their careers, whereas some after-hiatuses are back on stage. These bullying controversies have ruined celebrity's careers, and many celebrities try to keep their clean image. Here is a list of Korean Celebrities that got canceled in the industry for bullying scandals.

1. (G)I-DLE Soojin

Seo Soo Jin is a former member of the girl group (G)I-DLE, who the label had coerced to leave the group when accusations that she was a bully during middle school arose. Soo Jin, in 2021 was accused that she slapped her classmates, extorting money and belongings, and out-casting her classmates. The label denied that she had anything to do with the allegations and sent her on a hiatus. These accusations spread like wildfire when her former classmate, Actress Seo Shin Ae alleged that she had gotten bullied by Soo Jin too. Later Cube Entertainment released an official statement stating that she had left the group.

 

2. Lesserafim Kim Garam

Kim Garam is a former member of the girl group Lesserafim, with who the label terminated its contract with her as she got caught up in school bullying rumors. Garam, not long after her debut, was accused of bullying her former classmate and picking on her classmates that she did not like. The label did investigations and stated that Garam was a victim of bullying herself. The bullying scandal did not stop, so Hybe sent her on a temporary hiatus. During this time, many fans of Lesserafim wanted her to leave the group due to the bullying accusations and thought she was bringing down the just-debuted group. After that, the company released a statement that they decided to terminate the contract with Garam.

 

3. AOA Jimin

Shin Ji Min is a former member of the girl group AOA where she was the main rapper and the leader. In 2020 former member Kwon Mina claimed on Instagram that she w bullied by Jimin for ten years, which led to suicidal behavior. She also stated that her departure from the group was because she could no longer go through such treatment from her team member. Later, Mina put another Instagram post claiming that Jimin had bullied four more people, and even one of them passed away. FNC Entertainment stated that Jimin has left AOA and is no longer part of the group.

 

4. Stray Kids Woojin

Kim Woo Jin is a former member of the famous boy group Stray Kids. JYP Entertainment 2019 released a statement that Woojin had left the group for personal reasons, and this departure from the group felt suspicious to many fans. Many began speculating that Woojin was bullying the group members, and the rumors spread, after which a video surfaced on the net that showed two members acting uncomfortable around him. In 2020 someone on Twitter accused him of sexually harassing her in a bar. Some claim that the rumors got spread by some fans who felt resentment towards him for leaving the group.

 

5. T-Ara Jiyeon 

Park Ji Yeon is a South Korean singer, actress, and member of the girl group T-ara. The bullying scandal surfaced when the group held their solo concert in Japan, where member Hwayoung performed only one song due to injuries. Some of the other members tweeted about levels of determination that netizens started speculating that Hwayoung got bullied in the group. This scandal spread like wildfire when Hwayoung’s sister tweeted that determination alone is not enough and that god knows everything. Hwayoung left the group in 2012, and many fans found many clips showing the members excluding and bullying her. Many speculations rose claimed that the cruelest of them was Jiyeon. A trainee under the same agency as the group accused Jiyeon of oppressing her. This bullying scandal tainted the reputation of T-ara being one of the popular girl groups.

April is a South Korean girl group formed in 2015 by DSP Media. This girl group got harsh responses from fans when the news broke that the members were bullying the former member, Hyun Joo. A netizen who claimed to be her younger brother on a post accusing the members of oppressing his sister when she was part of the group. He mentioned that she was left out by the members, and bullied by them, which caused her anxiety and suicidal thoughts. This scandal blew out of proportion when Hyun Joo, in her Instagram post, admitted to being bullied by the members. The label and other members denied all the allegations, but due to heavy criticisms from netizens and fans, the group disbanded in 2022.

 

7. Kim Ji Soo 

Kim Ji Soo is a South Korean actor who is known for his appearance in the drama Scarlet Heart Ryeo. In 2021 a post got uploaded to an online forum accusing Ji Soo of being a bully during his school time and claiming him to be a sexual predator. The person claimed that Ji Soo would blackmail, use abusive language and throw insults at other students. Following this, his other former classmates accused him of sexual violence and being a womanizer. The actor posted a handwritten apology that said he was sorry and that there were no excuses for his past misconduct. Ji Soo got canceled from the drama he was supposed to appear in, and this scandal has cost him his career.

 

8. Stray Kids Hyunjin

Hwang Hyun Jin is a member of the popular boy group Stray Kids, which debuted in 2018. In 2021 an anonymous netizen on an online forum accused Hyun Jin of partaking in school bullying and assaulting people. Another classmate of his came out calling that it was not true that he bullied people and was all false rumors spread. The scandal blew big, and he apologized to the accuser for his past actions. He posted a handwritten apology on Instagram, stating that his actions caused someone unforgettable pain. After this, he was on hiatus by the company for about four months, and he is now back on stage, but it did cause his career danger.

 

9. S#ARP 

S#ARP is a South Korean co-ed pop vocal group with four members that debuted in 1998. When the group started gaining popularity, conflicts arose and were critical between Seo Ji Young and Lee Ji Hye. The group got formed by Seo Ji Young’s family. She wanted the group to consist of her close friends, but Lee Ji Hye was an exception as she became a part of the group through auditions. The feud is said to have risen from Seo Ji Young’s jealousy, which led to her bullying Lee Ji Hye. Ji Hye admitted to being violently abused by the latter and her boyfriend. This scandal spread like wildfire, and a press conference got held where both shared their sides of the story, after which Ji Young faced criticisms. The group finally disbanded after a week in 2002.

 

10. Jo Byun Gyu 

Jo Byun Gyu is a South Korean actor known for his roles in SKY Castle and The Uncanny Counter. In 2021 a former classmate in New Zealand accused him of verbal abuse and obscene jokes. The actor denied all the claims of being a perpetrator, and after investigations, the poster was found fake. The person who uploaded the post had to take it down and apologize to the actor. There was another post by a person claiming that the actor abused him in elementary and middle school. The actor posted an Instagram post denying the accusations, and the label also started to take legal action. Byun Gyu claimed that this scandal affected his career and damaged his reputation.
